What to do if you already paid
Act fast: contact the card issuer, save evidence, and report to authorities.
If you already shared gift card codes, speed matters. Recovery is difficult but reporting helps protect others.
Step 1: Call the card company
Use the number on the back of the card or the issuer’s official support site. Ask if any balance can be frozen.

Step 2: Save everything
Keep cards, receipts, chat logs, and screenshots. Upload redacted copies when you report the scam here.
Step 3: Report officially
File with the FTC and your local police. See our external help links for direct reporting portals.
Watch for follow-up scams
Never pay “recovery fees” in gift cards to someone who claims they can get your money back.
